Beach Activities
The Hilton Head Island beach is truly one of the reasons that many visitors return year after year. There are so many things to do on the beaches including swimming, boogie boarding, building sand castles or just relaxing under an umbrella. Because of the hard packed sand biking on the beach is a very popular pastime, it is one of the few places that you can ride along and see dolphins frolicking in the surf at the same time.
Because our beaches slope very gradually in most areas, you can go out a long way from shore and still be able to stand with your head above water, just be careful of the tidal currents and the deep holes they produce. This gradual slope inhibits most wave action; it also means the tides have very significant effect on the width of the beach which can go from being very wide to just a sliver of beach.
